ABOUT
THE ROBBIE BURNS HOTEL WYNDHAM
Robbie Burns, born in 1756 in Scotland, was a man who knew his words could light and lift the hearts of men. Almost 100 years had passed since then, when in 1849 Robert Turbert was found guilty of theft on the streets of Edinburgh, and shipped across oceans to a land that sang with a different tongue. Mary Peacock, 14 years old and an orphan of the potato famine in Ireland, was shipped out with other orphans to Australia in 1850. Robert and Mary met and married in 1852 and together built the Robbie Burns Hotel in Wyndham, NSW. They had 13 children and the hotel remained in the family until 1959.
